The train, comprising of six coaches, started its journey from Howrah station and reached the Salt Lake Sector V in Kolkata, covering a distance of 16600 MTR.
This is a significant milestone for Kolkata Metro, which has been under construction for several years. The project involved drilling a tunnel below the Hooghly river, which was a challenging task due to the river's depth and the soft soil at the bottom. The tunnel was constructed using the tunnel boring machine (TBM) method, which involves drilling through the ground and building the tunnel as the machine moves forward.
The successful completion of the under-river journey is a major achievement for Kolkata Metro and a significant step forward for public transportation in India. The project will provide commuters with a faster, safer, and more efficient mode of transportation, helping to reduce traffic congestion and air pollution in the city.
Myself am a resident of Kolkata I am proud that such a big project has been completed in my Bengal.
Thank you
